S1NGLETOWN BY DROOG AND KESSELKRAMER

S1ngletown is one of the most interesting projects I saw at the 11th Venice Biennale Architecture
” More and more, we live by ourselves. Traditional social networks of family and clan have given way to temporary and negotiated ones, and even friendships are fluid and often exist outside of physical space. By 2006, a third of all of us in developed and developing countries will be living alone. How can we be at home in the modern world? the Dutch collective Droog Design, in collaboration with the advertising farm Kesselkramer, has collaborated to create a prototype community for singles. “S1ngletown” is an abstract representation of an urban space consisting of the cocoons, implements, connective technologies, and wearable signs singles nees in order to inhabit our atomized environment. It is a network of solitary nodes in a spatial network architects, designers and artists must weave in order to create a social alternative to a landscape of alienated individuals and static objects”

“A JACKET FOR LONELY PEOPLE is a jacket made of velcro strips. The lonely single walks around their city, hoping to bump into someone else with the same jacket. On contact, the two jackets connect, creating an instant social situation. Made by COMPANY – Aamu Song & Johan Olin”

“LIFE DRESS is a means of creating instant privacy in crowds. The wearer activates air cartridges to inflate the skirt, turning into a human-sized bubble. made by AnnaMariaCornelia De Gersem”

Katharina Ludwig

What I like the most in Katharina Ludwig’s project is the attention she gives to the relation between objects, feelings and memories…

We can’t interact with things without transferring them our personal touch and experience, therefore things change with us and because of us…

“The bracelet works like a knitting spool. It symbolizes new roots you constantly grow and become a part of. The yarn that goes in, stands for the experiences you make, the knitting is the assimilation and what comes out, is the mesh of roots. You can knit little objects, coloured yarn , hair etc. in, according to your mood and the experiences you make.”

“Jewellery stands for wealth, beauty and status. These dissolvable jewels show that all these things can disappear very fast, being put into wrong conditionsand not being taken care of.”

Janine Arnold

Janine Arnold’s work “celebrates the interplay of wearable jewellery and autonomous objects. In combination with an apparent attention to detail it reveals a narrative character in both her wearable and sculptural pieces”…

Martin Margiela SS09

20 years of Martin Margiela. 20 years of style, research and innovation. Martin Margiela has always been among those who think in advance, prefigure, determine fashion, and this SS collection, which celebrates the 20th year of the Maison, clearly underlines all these characteristics.

All the classics of the maison were on the catwalk, but updated, worn by models whose faces were hidden behind stockings or wigs, in a surreal athmosphere full of trompe l’oeil and modern and contemporary art suggestions…
