Ivonne Thein

The striking  thirty-two kilos series by Ivonne Thein, a strong visual reflection on the Pro Ana phenomenon:

“the Internet movement  Pro Ana  elevates anorexia nervosa to the status of a new, positive lifestyle for young women. The Internet has become the virtual home to diverse communities [...] On these sites, this extreme body ideal is illustrated with abundant visual material [...] The health risks of this lifestyle, however, disappear from view. At the same time, one also regularly finds photographs on these sites that the trained eye can recognize as having been manipulated”

  1. WHY!!!!! ???? …….just WHY?????

  2. Dear Zoe… well I’m answering using the same question you made…
    WHY???? Why didn’t you read???
I’m quite tired of people just having a glance at blogs without reading statements or contents… because if you just took few seconds of your time to read the text above the mages… I think you would have found yourself the answer to your question…
This series is AGAINST the Pro Ana movement, is a reflection on how the ideal of beauty is ill and distorted… please read and try to go further if you’re interested by reading the whole statemet in the artist’s website…
If i decided to post a part of the statement is to avoid misunderstaings, but it seems you didn’t take time to read it and decided to comment me here and on facebook.
Well, I’m glad this post made you react, this means the artist’s aim was reached, but I’m quite sad about the fact that you misunderstood…
    Hope everything is clear now.
Anorexia is a disease, and not a value. Contemporary art often highlights modern society’s disases… its not an apologia, it’s just a reflection.

  3. I did take time to read it but I still didn’t understand so perhaps it wasn’t clear enough…

  4. read again zoe, read…
